Yasmin is a combined oral contraceptive pill that contains two hormones: drospirenone (a progestogen) and ethinylestradiol (an estrogen). It works to prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation, thickening the cervical mucus to make it harder for sperm to reach the uterus, and altering the uterine lining to prevent a fertilized egg from implanting. Yasmin is taken for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day break, during which a withdrawal bleed occurs. Besides contraception, Yasmin is also prescribed to help with regulating menstrual cycles, reducing period pain, and treating acne.
